Allergic Reaction Treatment at Urgent Care
Urgent care can handle many allergic reactions, but severity determines whether you need urgent care or emergency care.
Urgent Care CAN Treat:
- Hives and skin rashes
- Mild swelling (not throat)
- Itching and redness
- Mild food allergy symptoms
- Allergic reactions to insect bites
- Medication reactions (mild)
Go to ER for (Anaphylaxis):
- Throat swelling or tightness
- Difficulty breathing
- Dizziness or fainting
- Rapid heartbeat
- Severe swelling of face/lips
- Use of EpiPen (still go to ER after)
Treatment at Urgent Care
- Antihistamines: Benadryl (oral or injection)
- Steroids: To reduce inflammation
- Monitoring: Watch for worsening symptoms
- Prescription: EpiPen for future emergencies
Cost
- Visit + treatment: $100-$200
- Steroid injection: $50-$100 additional
- EpiPen prescription: $300-$600 at pharmacy
